I am curious about Harmoniums vs. synthesizers.
Also can a Harmonium work with Carnatic. I am under the impression (probably mistaken ) that some shrutis do not map well.

All the sruthis map in harmonium. There is no instrument specially made for any style, its truly depands the practice and the detication. My guruji Shri Natyacharya's book about Learn Keyboard & Harmonium will explain how to play the gamakas also. In harmonium if the person sing along with it they can play swara(cut notes), sahidya (countinuty) it is a special training under my guruji, so many small kids also playing very well for bajans, classical- like a violin even more than that.

What about the piano , mouth-organ and ukulele in Carnatic music ? Thanks for comments.

Thanks a lot for your info. Please also let me know if structure of keys in a keyboard is the same as in harmonium. This would in effect mean learning also keyboard while learning Harmonium.

Hi Deepak
The structure of keys and harmonium is same playing method also same. But in western style we are using more keys we use to say more octave. In Harmonium there are 3 to three and a half octave keys availble, but in the key board five to sic octave keys are available. Then it is easy to play in both the hands. we are getting interesting sounds in the keyboard but harmonium spells only 2 to 5 Sounds only. Harmonium is design to learn Indian style of music then 3 octaves is sufficiant to play, even the one hand practice also best to it. there are plenty of the things to know you can go through my guruji's book Learn Keyboard and Harmonium Rs 154 + Postal charges.
