Philadelphia Philoharmonic Orchetsra has decided to play only 20th century music starting next season. What will happen if the same rule is applied by Carnatic Music artists?
Has the biggest contribution been only by the members of the Trinity?

Nadopasaka:
As Sree noted Tanangambadi Panchanada Iyer lived between 1824 and 1874 and was a disciple of Shyama Shastri. Manambuchavadi Venkatasubbier was a cousin of Tyagaraja and his disciples were Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer, Patnam Subramania Iyer and Sarabha Shastri and Tyagaraja the grandson. Exact dates are not available.
Vinai Kuppier was a disciple of Tyagaraja- born in 1798 and lived 106 yrs and died in 1904.

Vinai Kuppier's longevity certainly helps the argument for the health related benefits of CM being discussed on another thread.
(CM and use in medicine )
Also Sadashiva Brahmendra. He must have been a real fossil to be even considered for the reported 200 + years.

Lakshman,
It is tarangampAdi. Some people call it talangampAdi. British called it Tranqubar.
No, it is highly likely that TPI was not a sishya of Shyama Sastri (1762-1827). He could not have been Syama's sishya as SS passed away in 1827. TPI (1824-1874) would have been 3 years old at that time. There is a remote chance that SS might have initiated TPI before passing away. The most likely person who taught TPI would be Subbaraya Sastri (1803-1862), son of Syama S.

I also believe that music calms your nerves thereby contributing to longevity.
Some of those that lived (living) around 80 or so years are : Tyagaraja, Purandara Dasa, Ramaswami Dikshitar (father of MD), Ariyakudi, Mysore Vasudevachariar, MSS, SSI, DKP et al.,
60-70 seems to be the median. Examples : Badrachala Ramadasa, MD, SS, Subbaraya Sastri, Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer, TarangampAdi P. Iyer, Patnam, Poochi, MMI, GNB, MDR and a whole bunch of others...
That's well above the average age for an Indian!

Nadopasaka & Sree:
I may have misled you about the age of Vinai Kuppier. The info that I posted was obtained from some book but I have another reference, this time by P.Sambamurti, who states that Kuppier died in 1860 which looks more likely. I will check again about Panchanada Iyer.

Can you comment on whether Bangalore S. Mukund is a performer i.e. vocalist or instrumentalist ? I somehow think Muthiah B., Koteeswara I. , Thanjavur S. Iyer etc, were less performers than Patnam S. or Mys. Vasudevachar or GNB.

Nadopasaka:
He is neither. He is a composer par excellence! His compositions have been used extensively by dancers. They have not become popular on the concert stage yet. He lives in Bangalore.

I am aware that Oothukadu V. Iyer's compositions ( he may be of the 20th century ) appear in some of the Dhananjayan dance recitals. I would like to listen to what B. Mukund may have in Yadukula Kamboji especially. How old is he ? Are the prati-madhyama melas well represented in his krities ?
Which artistes are likely to know them ? Does being a performer help or hinder in spreading ones own krities ?
It can be very difficult to get out of the great vaggeyakaras long shadows.

Nadopasaka:
I have about 800 odd song titles of his but no full lyrics of any. He told me his compositions number about 4500. He has written a scholarly book titled Sangita Lalitya Lahari in which he lists a number of kritis that have been utilized in dance performances. In my list there are two songs in Yadukulakambhoji.

There is a fine kriti in Vishnupriya ' Balasubramanyam Padame thunai' by Thanjavur Shankara Iyer. I think TVS sang it and also said that the raga was reveled by TSI. any other krities in this or info. about this raga ?
Another minor composer is Tiruvottiur Tyagayya.

I'm pretty sure UththakkAdu vEnkata subbier is not a 20th century composer. He is either a 19th or 18th century composer. Let me confirm this on Monday.
