What about devotional music? Yesudas has done a lot of classical devotional tapes, like for deities Ayyappan, Guruvayurappan, etc.

I just heard KJY classical vol 19 on tape.
He starts out with a crisp alaapanai of chakravaham followed by a beautifully rendered Vinaayaka by dikshitar. I think this is the best rendition I have heard of this song.
Sangeetha Gnanamu in Dhanyasi by Thyagarajar follows, nothing spectacular.
This is followed by a long Kharaharapriya. I have heard his alapana before for Pakkala, but this was really s t r e t c h i n g it. I stopped the tape because I could not take it anymore. The song is rendered with many mistakes in saahityam, as usual.
The audio quality of the tape is very much better, which is a good thing. Out of 10 this gets a 5.
