Can somebody explain whether the CD is basically a recording room magic (overlaying MSS on old recordings of SSI) or if it is recording of a 90+ year old SSI?

varada,
as the inlay cover of the casette explains, it is
a recording done at the house of one of the ex-secretary's
of music academy.
it was a normal practice for all musicians to assemble at his place
for a time of music.
this was one such occassion.
the original recording had neither any accompanient
nor a tambura.
these were added later on.

There is nothing in the inlay cover of the CD that I got. Any idea how old SSI was when it was recorded?. And if I read the post correctly, both MSS and tambura were added later?

no no.
mss was there initially.
it was a very informal affair and since mss is the
student of SSI, she has just sung along.
that's the reason, they have sung at 3/4 kattai(or 1/2?)_
sruthi.
i think the year was late sixties...i will check up
the tape and let you know.
