Recently a life-size statue of Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar was erected at Chembai village. The statue was erected at the initiative of Yesudas as tribute to his Guru. Please share your views on Chemabi and his contributions. I think he helped many people who, otherwise, had no chance to receive training from musicians of fame and known talents. He was large hearted to accept Yesudas and Jayan (jayan of Jaya-Vijayans) who did not qualify to become disciples of other musicians of that time because of their religious and caste backgrounds. Chembai is matchless while singing swaras.

Yes...I agree with Siby's Views. Chembai Swamy's accepting Yesudas as a student when no one else was willing is a sign of his committment. Whether people thought he was a hindu or a brahmin, music was his caste an religion. His magnaninous act of training Yesudas specially at at time when caste system, was at its worst is laudable. But for him the music world would have been deprived of a great legend and artiste like Yesudas. Dr. Yesudas's initiative to erect a statue in honor of his guru discloses the size of the statue of his Guru in his heart. He is Guru Bhakti personified.

yes i do agree with that. Chembai Swamy was a great mastreo and would be remembered by all music lovers for contributing so much to carnatic music and for making yesudas what he is today

Please, give in your views on Chembai (please don't feel I'm prodding you all but there are only two postings), his music and a comparative analysis of Chembai with his contemporaries.
