Hi, I am Kamal from Mauritius.Without wasting time let's work:Tihai means playing a composition thrice usually starting from SAM and ending on SAM.At times Pandits or Ustaads play tihais starting from any matra of the taal but the most important thing is that wherever you start you should end on the SAM(first beat).For e.g.a tihai in teentaal from SAM to SAM is as follows;
Tite kite DhaS NaS DhaS NaDha
Tite kite DhaS NaS DhaS NaDha
Tite kite DhaS NaDha NaDha(SAM)
If you have observed first Tite is on SAM and the tihai ends on the SAM.It's just mathematical.
Sometimes you might listen to composition which may resemble a tihai but it might not be for e.g the following composition is a Mohra in teentaal but when played in fast speed, it may seem like a tihai.
Dhage Teena Kitetake Dhatite
Kitetake Titekite Taketake Titekite
Dhas Titekite Taketake Titekite
Dhas Titekite Taketake Titekite
Dha(SAM)
Hope that this may help you friend.Keep contact and practise well.I would like to tell you that theory is totally different as compared to practice.But both are equally important.Count everything on hand and then only you should start practising.
All the best,
Kamal
