India fail to make women's hockey World Cup
India failed to make it to the women's World Cup hockey tournament, after losing 1-3 to the United States in the third and final qualifying play-off match in London on Tuesday.
Jyoti Kullu scored the lone goal for India through a penalty-corner while the United states were helped by two goals from Tracy Fuchs, the first through a penalty stroke and the second a penalty-corner conversion, and a field goal by Kelli Gannon.
The first two matches had ended in draws.
The play-off series was held as the Americans had failed to make it to the qualifiers in Paris last September due to security reasons following the September 11 terrorist attacks. The FIH gave them another chance by asking seventh-placed India to play a three-match series.

Dear Friends,
Once again bad luck seems to be the reason why We Indians fail in sports .... please comment...
My reason seems to be that we as Indians (especially the Hindu mentality ) is defeat oriented that is we do not have the GUTS TO PUT UP A GOOD SHOW WHEN CONFRONTED WITH A DO OR DIE SITUATION !! We usually die !!
One may agree that Loss to Korea in the Asian games was bad luck. The Indian Ladies are anyday much better than their "Blunt- Nosed" Korean rivals .Perhaps physique and strength of koreans help them beat our Ladies.
But loss to Americans is sheer "INDIAN MENTALTY" at display. After all Indian Woman is INDIA PERSONIFIED !!
I had hoped that Indian ladies would do what Indian menfolk had failed in both Hockey and crickt world cup !! SURELY INDIAN WOMEN'S TEAM NEED TO HAVE THEIR NOSES TWEAKED FOR THEIR ATTITUDE IN THE LAST MATCH !!
FATE HAS BEEN AGAINST THEM !
IT IS A TIME FOR MOURNING
