Most of the Indians, particularly tamilians (Non-vegetarians) feels that THAI(LAND) food is the best food in the world. Itz even better than the south-indian food. Any idea?!

Hi ,
I feel that tamilians use a lot of coconut in their cooking and in thai food the main ingredient is coconut. So they like it. But then it agains depends on personal taste. I feel both the cuisines r equally good.
Secondly we have a couple friend who r typical tamilians meaning from madras and they have been eating idlis and dosas throughtout their life. So once I suggested them to have thai food and I told them that it matches with indian taste. They loved it like anything espcially the chicken satay.

Well...actually in Thai food(s), apart from coconut, they are using a lot of fresh (green) vegetables. Ofcourse Thai foods are very SPICY
too. This is also a reason for the South Indians liking Thai Food.
If anybody wishes to try some Thai food, please try the following items.
(1) KOW-PHAT ( This is not so SPICY. Itz more or less like a FRIE RICE. KOW-PHAT Vegetarian, KOW-PHAT EGG, KOW-PHAT CHICKEN rices are good)
(2) BAI-KHA-PHAW (BAI-KHA-PHAW in Thai language means 'TULSI' leaf. BAI-KHA-PHAW Chicken, or BAI-KHA-PHAW Khuung (Prawn) are very famous food items in Thai)
(3) THOM-YOM (A Very Hot & Spicy Soup - THOM-YOM-KHAI (Chicken) or THOM-YOM-Khuung (Prawn) are very tasty)
(4) Patppi-Kaeng (This is very good food item which is very similar like our SAMBAR, but with lot of vegetables and chicken)

//Not THOM YAM...its Tom Yam//
may be in singapore u ppl can call it as TOM, but in thailand native thai people call it as THOM only...anyhow the spelling doesnt matter, rite?! In Thailand the thai people used to say 'KAAI KAI KHAI KAII?!' As a foreigner we can understand what they are saying...but the real meaning is 'WHO SELLS (CHICKEN) EGG?'
Kaai --> Who
Kai --> Sell
Khai --> Chicken
Kaii --> Egg
Ofcourse itz Thai people only who can speaks this sentence on their own way. In foodcourts I used to see the non-Thai friends trying failed to order Egg-fried rice by saying 'Kaai', and getting 'Khai' rice (Chicken fried rice).

Tom Yam
2 pounds fresh mushrooms (or other ingredient) cut into convenient
spoonable size pieces...
2 stalks of lemon grass, bruised (this isn't eaten, but is an essential
flavorant)
2 "kaffir" lime leaves (use lime zest if you can't get it)
2 coriander [cilantro] plants, chopped.
10-15 prik ki nu (birdseye chilis) thinly sliced.
2-5 dried red chilis.
the juice of 3 or 4 limes
2 or 3 tablespoons of sliced bamboo shoots
2-3 tablespoons of fish sauce.
1-2 tablespoons "chilis in oil"
The fresh chiles should be bruised in a mortar and pestle. The dried
chilies should be heated first, then crumbled into the fresh chilies.
Beat the lemon grass with the grinder of the mortar and pestle ( I'm never sure whether it is the mortar or the pestle in English...)
Heat about 3 cups of water to boiling point, add all the ingredients,
and stir constantly until cooked (it doesn't take long for mushrooms,
longer for chicken or shrimp, and longest for beef).
variation : use three cups of thin coconut milk instead of water, the
result is tom kha, rather than tom yam...

what i feel is that thai food is like a limited meal and people who like to diet can stop eating all dhals and masala items and take thai food which has no fat.
cooking thai food is very easy just garlic some chicken,fish oil,soya sauce chillies basil leaves thats it.
saves time and also healthy too.my son who is 1 yr old just not started to walk and not yet started talking he like only thai food rather than over indian food which is watery.
thai food easy to cook easy to eat limited food healthy too.
thank you.

WOW ! A site for Thai food fanatics ! I must say I have recently started to appreciate authentic Thai cuisine . The Tom Yum soup and the Thai red and green curries are among my favourites . I can see why Indians appreciate Thai food . It is spicy and very flavourful .
I wish to learn how to make these dishes . Good day !

Thai food lovers, check out this site. It has lots of recipes but ofcourse the catch is that the main 'masal/spice' ingediants are packaged ones and u have to buy it from a store hence can not make the dish from scratch but it works for me so thought will share with u all!:-)
