Was G.Naagarajan ('Naalai Matrumoru Naale', 'Kurathi Mudukku') ahead of his times?

Well...I dont have his collection with me now.
As for as my knowledge is concerned, G. Nagarajan is good. Even I can brand himself an 'anarchic' writer from the traditional point of view.
So the chances are very good that he could be well ahead of his time in some of his stories atleast.

Saminathan,
Do you remember GN's KaNdathum Kettadhum? There is a story named 'EngalL oor' - the story happens in just 6 or 7 lines in the narrative, cleverly tucked inside a breathtaking narration of life in a small town. The story? A mother visiting her CSW daughter to get the monthly payments and their discussions about father, brother and all other in the family.. GN is a wizard weaving an unforgottable image in just a few lines. I've not seen that mastery over words (call it craft) in anyone after him.
And about his 'NaaLai Matrumour NaaLe', we can talk / write nonstop for hours together!

I recently found collected works of G. Nagarajan in San Jose main library. I never heard of him before and I found the book to be great!
1. The first thing that strikes about his works is that the default location is a brothel. Prostitutes, pimps, rowdies, beggars, peons and an occasional middle class frequenter of brothels are the normal characters. Naalai Matroru Naale, Kuratthi Mudukku, Engal Oor, Poorvasiramam, Yaro Muttal Sonna Kadhai and so on...
2. The second thing is the economy of words. Where one word would suffice, he never uses two. The stories tend to be quite short - 4-5 pages on average. Even the novel is only a 100 pages long.
3. He is quite before his times. Homosexuality is mentioned in Naalai Matroru Naale - written in 1973. A lesbian rape is the core scene in Miss Bakyam. Even today, they kinda shock. In 70s and 60s! Maybe thats the reason he didnt get hyped up.

RV,
Thatz news to me! I was in SJ till March but I never knew I could get GN there!!
GN's nALai matRumoru nALE and Kurathi Mudukku require special mention for the craft and the story line - especially the first mentioned for the depiction of 'all in a day's life' of an ordinary individual.
BTW, this month's Kanaiyaazhi has some good articles on GN by Asokamitran, G.Mohan and S.Ramakrishnan.
