Sukrutha,
I'm not able to read your posting fully. I'll try to encode, read and get back to you later. But I guess you are playing with words again :-)

Jai,
No word-play.
Statistically speaking, men are no more or no less perverted than ever before. I took umberage at your statement which specifically says 'perversion in the fathers of today'.
Now to the esteemed Sujata. This man, very lightly makes a comment about a father's disgusting observation of his daughter. If the father's character is not already portrayed as a mentally-deranged person or an absolutely base evil person, the charcter ought not have such a thought, or in the least feel extremely apologetic the next instance.
Anyway, I am not worried that he has influenced our youth in any way - good or bad, fortunately for them.
He did not lead them to science and technology or computers. His were but introductions - sometimes very tedious and boring - to these subjects. I wonder that they were motivating enough for anyone to begin a serious relationship with these subjects.
Realistic writing ? I recall that he was the first to use the 'tha' and 'ya' words in written Tamil. Give him a big hand.
He said an interesting story now and then, but it is a big joke that he tries to write about 'naaladiyar' and 'prabandhams'.
His attitude towards women is full of perverted arrogance. Woman to him is such a commodity that there is nothing amiss even when her own father gives her a look over.

I think your may be right about his negative attitude(perversion), english mixed writing, confused philosophies etc. It would be great and more helpful if you and other friends those who read more (like ravi sundaram, vaasan) are able to give a deep analysis based on his any particular work. Hope, It may lead us to another 'war' :-) All this depends upon your interest and what importance you give to his works.
Vaasan, thanks for the translation.

I would like to know what yardsticks are taken into consideration when you guys try to criticise the giants like sujatha. Can anyone suggest some tamil writer who is more versatile?
- From: ravi sundaram (@ 192.149.1.187)

Uma Shankar,
Let us hear from you, the yardstick YOU use to term someone a "giant". Volume of output? Popularity of the writing? The range of subjects handled? Let us assume we can arrive at a consensus on what makes one a "giant". Is there any reason why someone worthy of the title "giant" is above criticism?
Remember: "netrik kaN thiranthaalum kutram kutramE". Even God is not above criticism.

Illayaraja foot-tapper leads BBC World Service Top 10
Adi Rakamma featured in Dalapati, Mani Ratnam's runaway hit of the Nineties
N Sathiya Moorthy in Chennai
Adi Rakkamma, kaiya thattu, the foot-tapper rendered by S P Balasubramaniam and Swarnalatha, from Mani Ratnam's Tamil megahit Dalapati, starring Rajnikanth, leads BBC World Service's Top Ten list for the 70th anniversary celebrations.
Illayaraja scored the music for the film, a runaway hit in the Nineties.
Also on the Top Ten list, based on entries from 112 countries, are two other Indian songs. One is Vande Mataram, composed and sung by A R Rahman, at the fifth slot. Another Rahman-scorer Chaiyya chaiyya is at the seventh place.
The Indian three are from among the 1,000-odd songs in pop and rap, Western classical and African tribals listed in thousands of votes that have thus far been recorded.
The final list will be run by BBC World Service December 21, according to a BBC release.
