How good was Tharumi as a poet? How good was Tharumi as a poet?

All times in EST +10:30 for IST.

It started quite innocuously. Was lazily watching an archived arattai arangam by Visu. (A SunTV talk show). It was at Karaikkal and a seventh standard girl named R Hemalatha spoke very nicely without stage fright very nicely and while making a poet recited a poem. The host Visu asked her if she wrote the poem, or, dropping his voice to a conspirational whisper, did someone else write it. She admitted her mom prepped her. Visu started saying "It is ok, it is already a great accomplishment for such an young girl to be confident and be so articulate. Even Tharumi borrowed the poem from Shivan." She could not get a word edgewise in. Then when she got her break, she floored Visu, " Nagesh [the actor who played tharumi in the movie] went there not knowing the meaning of the poem, but I am not like him, I know what I am talking about." (Num TV users you have about a week before this episode evaporates from their archives section).

Well that brings up the question. Was Tharumi a dumb poet who took Shiva's poem without knowing the meaning? Was Tharumi as dumb as portrayed by Nagesh?
