MOzhi veriyum, Patrum essential elements for survival of people. Matha veriyum, even matha pattrum mere arrogance out of ignorence.

IMH(umble)O, any paRRu is a sign of the human need for security and that may be rooted in ignorance. paRRu turns into veRi when the (false) security is threatened. mozhi, matham, inam, kulam are all on par here.

Kattabommu,
don't you think, your views are a little bit skewed?
when it comes to veRi, it is veRi; that's all. What sense it makes in stoning a rapid dog based on its color!

I agree, mozhi veri sounds a bit offensive. But it all depends on whether you are on the offensive or defensive side as far as the language policy is concerned. Language is quite different from the religion. Religions are predominantly, especially instituionalized versions, serve the class interests. But, Language plays an important role in the the ethnic/anthroplogical develpoment of a people or peoples.
Imposing one people's language on other even out of the patru is offensive and obviously wrong. On the other hand, If one happens to be on the defensive side fighting against imposition of another language one should have Veri to defend.
Just imagine what happened to Native Americans as a people. SInce they did not care to protect their spoken languages(I am not sure whether they had any written grammar/litereary records in their languages)they lost their cultural instituttuions. As a people, they are a lost race. If patrru is rooted in human need for security, How it can be called an ignorence. It is nor a false security. But if it is a desire for exploiting other, It is certainly arrogance. Has to be nipped in the bud.

The line between paRRu and veRi is akin to the line between genius and madness. But as a general rule, this difference seems to be in the eye of the beholder. So, if you are taling aboutt my language, religion or whatever that is mine, then it is paRRu. If you are talking about the other guy, then of course it is veRi. ;-))))).
