Dear ForumHubbers,
Please can some one suggest a good Tamil to English and English to Tamil Dictionary. I recently bought Winslow's English to Tamil Dictionary. Is Winslow's Dictionary good?

Winslow is quite ancient. You should consider kazaka thamizh kai akaraathi for English to Tamil dictionary. The Madras University Tamil Lexicon is the ultimate reference and is available online at the Cologne University website at the following URL:

Dear Manivannan,
I have already bought the Winslow's dictionary i.e English to Tamil. I realized after purchase that it is old (1850). Is that a major drawback? Is this dictionory of no use today?
Could you please let me know the author/s of "kazaka thamizh kai akaraathi for English to Tamil"?
Can you reccommend any good Tamil to English Dictionary. Where can I buy in US?
Thanks
Shiva

hi friends,
once I came to know about Bartholomaeus Ziegenbein, a German missionary in Tranquebar (a Danish station in TN, where in 1986 his grave stone still stood in front of the old Danish church) during he 18th centuary. B.Z. had collected tamil words plus translation into german. I have furthermore heard that his collection was later transferred to a place in Berlin, but it may have been lost during the bombing in the 2nd world war. Who knows about this? Perhaps Mani M. Manivannan in Uni Koeln?
Greetings from Aryaman (Stefan Wellershaus, SwAryaman@t-online.de)
