Hi:
Can I get the back issues of Muthu Comics(Tamil) released in 1980s?
As a child in 1980s I used to enjoy the Tamil transalation in those comics.
I can not forget Mayavi.
Pictures were so vivid.
Is there a way I can get it posted to my US address please?
Thanks for your help
Bala

Oh, boy, you took me back to "1/2 taousar" days. Who can forget a.ko.ko.thi.ka (azivu kolai koLLai thImaik kazakam). My fav. were lawrence and david, though irumpukkai maayaavi was immensely popular with my pals.
I do not think they are still being published. But, I know many men (the kids in them) who archieved it.
Another mag. I enjoyed was anil - closer to reality than ambulimAmA.

I am also interested in getting the old Muthu comics. There may be two possibilities. I will be greatful if anyone can help me with either one.
1. The guys and gals can inquire with 'Broadway Publications'. They are the original copy right holders. They can help us with the original english version.
2. The 'Sivakasi' people published in Tamil. Does anyone know the press in Sivakasi that published it. The Tamil editor was 'Mullai Thangarajan'.
Who can help me ? I will be your friend.

Thanks guys.
I am also looking for information on "Falcon Comics" (Tabloid) which portrayed Irumbukkai Robots.
God if only I have a chance to look at the mass of robots again!
Can anyone help me where I can find them (English or Tamil)

Is 'Beiruttil Jaani' interested by you? I want to
read a book - a good book - Fuzzy logic. Would you please advise?

Go for "Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications," by Timothy J. Ross.
However, Jaani was accused as a male chuvanist in later days in Tamil "ism" circles for his harassment of Stella;-))

Muthu comics was first published in 1972-I was 7 years at that time and it really opened a new world for me-the first ever title published was Irumbukkai Mayavi-the second was Uraipani marmam-the third was kolaigara kalaignan-a title starring Johnny-my word what a babe stella was!I think some of the sketches of her in the tub etc were a bit too much for kids !
I still remember how eagerly I used to wait for Deepavali malar-I particularly remember waiting for Kollaikara mayavi which was in -COLOR!that partiucular issue was so delayed and I had to read all my collection of back issues to whet my appetite and finally it came.
it was thrilling to look at sneak previews of goodies to come-the future issues-I particularly rememember the pictures for manjal poo marmam.
Ah those days...

Regarding Muthu comics: I too used to read them as a kid. This year, I became very nostalgic for them and did some research on them. Here is what I have found.
1. The next issue of Lion comics is going to have a Johnny Nero comic called "Kolai Karam" (The Fist that Kills). Contact Prakash of Prakash Publishers. The address in lion@vsnl.com
2. I live in the U.S., but I subscribe to Lion Comics. I pay Rs.1,400 (about $34) for a year's subscription. Their address is Prakash Publishers, P.O. Box 374, 8/D-5 Chairman PKSAA Road, Amman Kovilpatti, Sivakasi 626 189, Tamil Nadu, India.
3. Unfortunately, back-issues of Muthu comics are not available from Lion. Lion does occasionally publish old favorites like Johnny Nero.
4. I have found that Irumbukkai Maayavi was originally published in England. In English, he is called The Steel Claw. His real name is Lewis Randell. Lawrence's name in English is Codename Barracuda; David is Frollo. Johnny Nero and Stella have the same names in English.
5. Fleetway Publications in England was the original publisher of these comics. They appeared in small digest form and also in Fleetway and Valiant Annuals in the 1960s and 70s. Try E-bay of England (www.ebay.co.uk) for back-issues. I own several Steel Claw and Barracuda comics. Somehow, they seemed to be more fun in Tamil, probably because of the sometimes quaint translation of English terms -"Ravai" for bullet, for instance! But then, I was younger - just a boy when I read them in Tamil. I also have an Italian version of Johnny Nero, which I am translating to English.
6. I will try to post a Barracuda short comic in my website. I am going to California for a week, so you will have to wait till I come back.

I forgot! Rip Kirby and Corrigan comics are not too difficult to get - I am talking about the English versions. Contact Tony Raiola, POB 14361, Long Beach, CA 90803. Or do a Boolean search for "Rip Kirby NEAR Tony Raiola" in Altavista's advanced search.
I still have not been able to identify Charlie, another Muthu comics character. Does anybody know about him?

Oh Boy ..! I miss those days guys of reading muthu comics.. last time i was in india i went to Eshwari lending library in Royapettai. MS. in the same road where the AIDMK office is.. I read a lot of them like a fanatic ..
Still very interesting guys..!
When some one said the back issues are not available ..means they don’t publish any more or we don’t even get an old copy any more. If we can get one we can event publish it to the web if it is not a problem…!
How about .. Mu Co Ra Ka ( Muthu Comics Rasihargal Kazhaham )
