In tamil poems we come across sevili thaai (God Mother ?). Was it a practise of royal families and affluent families only? How did this idea come in to our country and how did it lose it's charm ? We don't have this kind of concept any more isn't it ? The role of God Mother is very important because the heroine always looks upto her for all kinds of help, especially expressing her love etc.

When i read those poems in my 11th and 12th standard, they didn't make any sense because we were reading something that was not in practise, but now i am curious about that practise after i saw the movie GodFather. Here's one practise that's common to italians and tamils. Italians still have this custom i suppose. Did we try to emulate them or did they get this custom from us ?

Wait a minute. I am surprised no one has responded to this one. Did i get the concept of Sevili thai as God Mother wrong ?I thought this was an interesting topic ? Did i word my posting in such a way it looks very political ? All i need to know is when did this concept start and why it ended and when ?
