hi all,

can anyone direct me to a proper reference material where i can find the evidence of how and when mamallapuram was submerged and few temples were lost under sea. we all know that the persent day mamallapuram is abondoned site whereas it was once a seaport (during pallavar period) and was very active.

also, does anyone know what was it called before mamallar (narashimma varma pallavar) built the temples and formed that city (because of which the city is known after him). i do know the another name of the city as mahabalipuram. but i am unsure of its reasons for that name, mahabalipuram. can anyone tell me that reason as well, please.

thank you,
senthil
